I wouldn't put it past her to have not just perfected the character of Mel, but even to have BECOME Mel. It takes a certain level of insanity to be that awesome of an actor/actress. That or she adapted much of her own traits and personality into the character Mel.

she,s got a nice way about her ,instantly likeable with hidden wit,you never quite know she,s joking ,i like her character so much ,she improves the show a lot!!

Definitely hard to tell if this is really her or not. I'm apt to say that if this is really her, Kristen Schaal, that she's definitely been typecast on FOTC!
