I heard this very concerto last night played by the SSO in Massachusetts with Kevin Rhodes conducting and with Matt Haimovitz as the chellist. Matt is the student of Yo-Yo Ma and I think that he played this piece better than anyone, even Yo-Yo Ma himself

This piece was written by Elgar not Vaughan Williams and there is no "scholk" in his writing either. Both Elgar and Vaughan Williams are masters of English music. And yes I do agree with what you say about Jacueline, she is wonderful!

I'm not a fan of English music ( despite being English!) but Jackie's playing touches a nerve, no doubt about it.

So many people assume (after hearing some of the more famous orchestral works) that Vaughn Williams is kind schlock-ee....but this concerto proves that there is great strength and power in his writing, as well: and of course Du Pre is, as always, willing to take the challenge, and brings it off beautifully!

hope you lot won't take me wrong here, but i wish vaughn williams or maurice ravel had (re-?) orchestrated this movement; thematically brilliant, but, it seems to me, a bit...well, wan, undermuscled. *ducks for cover*

i've seriously listened again to this recording that i have already heard a million times after reading this comment, and truly; she doesnt mess up at all. beside from the fact that it is a wonderful strong and emotional performance she also simply does not technically mess up. i have no idea why anybody would want to make a comment like that when clearly there is not much knowledge behind it.she does feel her fingers, i dont think she was ill yet, and she plays tremendously here .enjoy!

Some things are more important than the notes themselves. If you simply listened to the music, maybe it would uplift you to the point of understanding the music--the expression of great pain, great sublimity, great beauty played by a woman who understood that struggle like no-one else.

non mi stancherei mai di ascoltare questa interpretazione sublime .elgar compose questo concerto poco prima della perdita di sua moglie e si avverte tutta la sofferenza per quello che egli stesso viveva .jacqueline ....sei sempre con noi!!!!
