Well that's because they are playing opposite of eachother. One is playing the 1's & 3'a, while the other is playing the 2's & 4's...Great stuff!

No, I think that it's a smoother finish on that part of the cymbal, so it's reflecting light a different way, if you look closely, when Akira hits a cymbal, and you can see the underside of it, it has that ring, then all the sudden you see light and images reflecting off of it.
