So because something hastens death, it should be taxed. What a bizarre line of reasoning. If that was right, than everything consumed other than maybe oats would be extremely highly taxed, including all meats, all proteins, all fast foods, milk etc. The culture of cigarette taxation is a culture of bullying of a crass politicians, that want more money and more power, whipping up weak arguments to take it against a group, i.e. those that enjoy smoking tobacco. You should be ashamed of yourself

Cigarettes kill people, even people who DON'T smoke them so why shouldn't they be taxed. As a medical student I think it is ludicrous to disagree with taxing cigarettes to give innocent children healthcare!

Why stop with just insuring impoverished Children? Single payer health care in America would be a net money saver. Businesses would have healthy, insured workers. Taxpayers wouldn't have to spend money treating illnesses in the ER that could have prevented with checkups and preventative care. The fact is that the US spends more than other developed nations on health care but has the WORSE returns in terms of life expectancy and infant mortality.

Maddow said she would be for the plan even if it didn't tax cigarettes. 35 bil is a relatively small amount of the budget and would likely pay itself off because prevention is more cost effective.

Cigarette tax? lol So because I want to smoke a cigarette, I ought to pay for other people's health care. How about they have an abortion tax? Or what about a condom tax? Or an alcohol tax? Or a lesbian tax? Or a whey tax? Or a soy tax? I mean, Maddow is impractical in all her assertions.
