I dont see film makers in general with respect anymore. now its all about money and rushing a project out to get a name. that's the main reason I like independent movies and B-movies; there is some originality, and you can tell they aren't just caring about what may happen; just what is happening.

Really beautiful and surreal. Artistic and psychological, strangely allegorical. Neat to think about, lovely and disturbing to view.

I wish I could watch the rest of the movie but the even parts are missing. (Parts 2, 4, 6, and 8)

There's always going to be the commercial projects. What I mean by serious business is that anime was getting to a point of legitimacy in the film community. Last decade you had James Cameron gushing over Blood: The Last Vampire and Steven Spielberg raving over Castle of Cagliostro. Roger Ebert giving thumbs up for Ghost in the Shell and Akira and Darren Aronofsky homaging a scene from Perfect Blue. I just don't see film makers today looking at anime with the same level of respect anymore.

Anime was never completely "serious business". I mean, at the same time that this was made you got 52-episode anime that was nothing more than long advertisements for model kits of robots, and Urusei Yatsura OVAs (a comedy show with a ridiculous premise of its own). I agree with you on the animation quality, though. That's really what got me into anime in the first place.
