Yeah, I had a feeling that's what it was in regards to Richard. He just looked so miserable in that clip, and I thought, "oh, he so does not look good." What a bummer... but especially for Karen, considering that they didn't have a name for her disorder until she died. :(

Richard was miserable because he was adjusting to life without quaaludes, all the attention given to Karen,,while they both were recuperating, he with drug addiction, she with anorexia ( that back in the 80's they had no idea of what anorexia was..let alone the treament) She had a quack psych doc.that was more confused than her and caused alot of disruptions with Karen's wellbeing and her family's understanding of her disease

Do you notice that Richard looks so miserable in this clip? In the other performances, he usually had a smile on his face, or he was so enthusiastic about playing the music while Karen was performing. It was as though as he was sick or something. :(

I don't think she's a weaker singer here; I think she's a different singer. As the years passed, she became more seasoned, more thoughtful, more reflective as an artist. She went into a higher register beautifully and she did considerably more improvisation in her singing. Why she should be expected to stand still as an artist I don't know. Her last recording, "Now," is as brilliant as anything she had done.

From 1975, when I got my first Carpenters LP,I was wonder how she looks singing, how Richard play the keyboard, how the other band guys play the guitar,woods instruments,drums. Thanks to Internet, YT,XqueenringX,and others,I can appreciate all what I was dreaming. At that times, I lived in Argentina, S. America. Just radio stations and LP discs. I watched just one of their tv shows, around 90's over there. No one woman in the world,have a voice like her. Thank so much for posting.
