GORGONA, BELLEZZA INACCESSIBILE DELL'ARCIPELAGO TOSCANO
BackBella, inaccessibile e "autarchica". A Gorgona manca solo la benzina per non aver bisogno di niente e di nessuno: un dissalatore per l'acqua, una centrale elettrica per tutta l'isola, una splendida colonia agricola gestita con metodi all'avanguardia. Protagonisti di questa vita sono i detenuti -- attualmente 64 -- che ad oggi, con l'eccezione del personale civile e militare, sono gli unici abitanti dell'isola--carcere, l'ultima rimasta nell'arcipelago toscano, una delle poche in Italia. Oggi Gorgona prosegue tranquilla la propria vita di tutti i giorni, quasi fosse una vera e propria azienda agricola: viticoltura ad alto livello, allevamento di cavalli,asini, bovini, ovini, pollame, produzione di formaggi, persino un impianto "off shore" di piscicoltura dove si allevano orate e spigole. Un'isola che ricorda una probabile dominazione ligure grazie ai suoi terrazzamenti che sfruttano per intero il territorio, fino agli scogli. Un'isola che però presenta qualche segno di abbandono, come nel caso della Fortezza Pisana o della Villa Romana venuta alla luce sul porto dopo l'alluvione del 1994. Ma l'iniziativa più importante riguarda l'attività zootecnica di Gorgona, con un progetto che potrebbe interessare anche la vicina isola di Capraia. "Abbiamo intenzione di incrementare l'attività zootecnica -- spiega Massimo Schiavelli assessore della Comunità Montana - sia a Capraia sia nelle altre isola dell'Arcipelago Toscano".
