The Timeout Drawer, an instrumental post-rock band from Chicago, make their music video debut with this conflict-driven urban transportation dramedy directed by Chris Eichenseer of Someoddpilot. Chris is known in the design community for his design of the ever-powerful Pitchforkmedia.com website and other music industry design work for The Empty Bottle, XLR8R, The Windish Agency, Consumers Research & Development, and Chocolate Industries. Chicago is a city in between car culture and pedestrian culture, a city that can't make up it's mind which form of transportation it would like to endorse. This effectively pits cyclists against drivers, with the two commonly harassing each other, the latter having the advantage of size and heft. Chris's own personal encounter with the phenomenon is the inspiration for the video's narrative: one summer night on his bicycle he responded to being called a "f*ggot" by a passing car by flicking his cigarette into the car's front seat. The narrative begins here and quickly evolves into a high speed chase and a classic spaghetti-western high-noon-style showdown: it is the band vs. the goons, speeding across city streets with the conflict culminating in a dark Chicago alley, beneath the L tracks, haunted throughout by the harbinger of doom (a faithful recreation of Hieronymus Bosch's bird-like vision of Lucifer from his famous work "Garden of Earthly Delights"). It is a collision of worlds set to the soundtrack of the band's pummeling and explosive orchestral rock, and to Chris Eichenseer's stunning photographic style, faithfully translated here to moving pictures.
